Mike Sinlgetary is the new linebackers coach of the Baltimore Ravens
Pfft.
I am with Buck here as well on funding. The original teams in the NFL with private clubs who proxied support from their connections to the wealthy and to government, but still the clubs were private. If we are going to publically fund teams via tax revenue, I say hit them with excise that goes right back to the coffers for education, transportation, and utilties. I do not see the monies spent on sports teams bringing back as much revenue as going out. We have a big casino debate in my area that has gone on for years about how much benefit is given to communities that act as hosts. Like the sports teams, the evidence
does not meet the promises made. I like ultimatiums given to the teams and casinos that they must outline a plan of community benefit and if they do not deliver, funding is cut, and penalties are levied.Raiders here as well.
The ubergrammarmensch thinks Malcoholic forgot if something comes after ‘of’, it is an object of the preposition, and thus, a noun. In other words, stop frontin :p
Under the Big Black Sun!!!! Raiders Advance! Here is hoping they pound Greasy Elvis (Jeff Turner) and the little gods of Tennessee next week. Sux bad Pittsburgh went down though, just the same, but at least I have a clear team to root for next week.
Eagles /Bucs, geez bring lots of bandages. I like the Eagles. Talentwise, Bucs have the better defense, but scheme-wise, I like the Eagles on both sides of the ball. Both teams have a plethora of offensive options, but under even money on D, Eagles have the consistency to win a good, good game with McNabb.
Salami,
Hansione is using the old blindman icon now, Think it threw you off, but I have been meaning to give Tom Waits some closer listening,

Thanks! This also clears up a question on Gobblehoof I was too lazy to research.
observe rules, make palatable, vanish into mist

You rock LDD just like the men of steel!
Not looking past, but Steelers/Raiders would be awesome. Happy birthday, fellaShit , I did this in bits in pieces at one time all the time, bleed me running…
Name’s Tom. Am originally a south suburban Chicagoan. It used to mean something to "claim" the city, but with the fact the area code exclusivity used to sequester city elite from ‘burbees fell prey to cellularitis, it’s all one big slum again. Currently I live in Elkhart, In, a town about 20 minutes from South Bend, IN, home to Notre Dame, my school Indiana University South Bend, The College Football Hall of Fame and another slum that is bordered in outlying cities by poor, humble Amish and wealthy NIMBY Mennonites.
I am about a year away from getting my Bachelor’s in Education with a minor in Government, making me able to teach both. I have tried to share some of my interests here with this thing called the poetry thread. Several people have contributed and made it one of the points of attraction this board has to offer.
As of this year, I turned thirty years old. I joined the U.S.M.C. out of high school in 1990 and served a four year term. In between, I was able to fully realize through consequence some flaws in the way I lived life. Like CarlDOT, I am currently in recovery, but for booze, going on five years. Unlike Carl, I have no kids. I swore them off before I did alk, but I am warming to the idea, but the type of heat currently going on in my house has nothing to do with women or landlords, it is fucking kersosene. As Albini said, "it’s something to do."
I have also been employed going on 7 years at a private child support collection agency. I regularly attempt to to liberate money from people who have accumulated tens of thousands of dollars in back child support. Sometimes, we can even get money like that in lump sums, which is always great. My work’s website addy is http://www.childsupportrecovery.com. When I am not at school, I am usually at work or at home doing schoolwork. It’s a sad pun, but a pretty lucky life.
I got into Dino back in 1991-92. I was listening to FEN, the Far East Network radio station while in Okinawa, Japan with the Marines. While sucking down some paint fumes, I think, I heard Puke+Cry. Never had I heard such power mixed with a smooth drawl like that, with melody and harmony to boot. I went as far as getting Green Mind, Where You Been and disliking the overplay of Feel the Pain, to time-out from Dino for a few years. One day, while trying to think of something cool on the Net, I ended up here. I think that means I did the right thing.
Hobbies? Fishing, playing basketball, writing, cooking, reading, listening to J and now Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, Sleater-Kinney, Sparklehorse, bluegrass, Naked Raygun, The Bomb, Johnny Cash, White Stripes, Grateful Dead (if Greg Ginn could admit to digging them why can’t anyone else in this punk society ?) Joni Mitchell and others.
Oh yeah, I have a grating personality and don’t really care if you write me off as a whole. You could even say ignoring me is trendy, attractive and pretty easy to pick up, if you try. If you want to chat, I am easy to reach, but I also really do not care for pleasantries masked as social grace. Say what you must to me, as I will be kind, but fair with you in the same way. Oh and feel free to take any underyling motives or detached "cool" facades and share them with the folks who that shit originates from, lest I be forced to nap out mid-convo.
Happiest of New Years, I am going to go watch Barney :slap:
Allison, what I meant by the life-saving research is again, not as some ploy, but as I said before, our legislators are threatening to curb any genetics research based on incidents of actual or possible misuse. It’s the old "all for one" suffers deal and that is my only point. If the slimebags moneygrub by using legal facts to buffet themselves that is unfortunate for us all. Like you, I am in favor of stem cell work done prudently.
Priss, I do not know of Dr. Chesler, but if she thinks a science experiement can overturn centuries of social, political and religious dsicrimination against’ womenn, she needs to put down the crackrocks.
P.s. saw your name on Codrescu’s site!

I hate running quotes so I will not. I am confused by the parts of aboutthe embryos being scary and then them not being human at all. I think I am missing something here, but this is a tricky deal, just like with the gigantic abortion controversy that has lasted decades in the U.S. It disgusts me that a person who has a differeing view from another is automatically judged to be "immoral" because they simply do not agree. Obviously, there are reams of legal and philsopihical documents that go way beyond such a trite statement, but they have not fixed anything as of yet, just gotten a lot of people killed in all ways
I am not saying that in your case, FC, but I think the "marketing" comment presumes I support what I argued against. Not so. I referred to another public arguement going on in the States that is threatening to lead to more expansive laws that would harness the ability to perform research, especially in genetics. I am sorry if you felt I was picking on you and if I took something you said out of context. I worried that would happen, but couldn’t say what I needed to say otherwise. I am sorry.
I checked out the Ross link, Allison, thank you. Why can’t Rael just go ahead and defraud some savings and loans and help the economy some more? Geez, he is operating on much old premise for his philo. But, he is willing to prostitute his cult to antagonists for advancement. He has done some homework, realizing that any type of publiciity is better for funding than holding onto his beliefs in poverty. Maybe he is hoping that the confusion created by selling out vs. the offering of something novel will keeping sucking in confused masses looking for "the answers" and sexual gratification of otherworldy proportions.
Nick knack tally whacked.I wonder, if in fact, this was true, will the repulsion anf fear associated with the act and its creator will create a new type of discrimination. I know this sounds like a kitsch response to this phenomena, but perhaps Stan Lee had something there. Besides, I can leave any true and revolutionary questions about this process for those striving to invent something new, something, more than human.
I disagree with you on this one FC, the clone is a real person. I think the cloud of newness and the distance we are apt to associate with this scientifc form of Modernism makes it easy to fall into the trap of indifference. It is especially alarming to think life-saving research and procedures are in danger, at least here in the USA, as a result of such views, let alone the misuse of the technology.
I cannot say I am in favor of making humans in a petri dish, but I am in favor of using the fruits of our labors, namely the Human Genome Project , to cure disease and discomfort, Sadly, I do not believe that aestheticism can remain attached to science in a guiding fashion for any one particular task at great length, as long as we have powermongers and folks who in the name of the ironic and the inventive, chose to create a gulf between the works of humans and humanity.
