Dear dastardly clever Mattman,
Unfortunately, Mom sold the house several years ago, so my childhood/teenage bedroom is no more I do still have all my pj posters in a folder though; lots of cool old pics from Circus magazine & stuff like that.
My walls right now are basically David Blaine (*sigh*) and a couple pictures that J autographed for me…but Eddie still rocks I like "overaggressive political assaults"….possibly why you & I get along?
take care
RosaSeptember 15, 2001 at 11:00 pm in reply to: where the grass is green and the girls are pretty #65142Hey Matt,
I saw him on Conan too!! Was very excited when Conan finished the monologue– "…and sitting in with the Max Weinberg 7 tonight, you know him from the legendary band Guns n’ Roses…" woo-hoo! It took me back to 7th grade or so. And might I say, he still looks damn good.
I’ll have to leave the blonds for Allison; only blond I ever really liked was Kiefer Sutherland…the pointy eyebrows….oooooooo
That was dreadful of you to torture your friend like that…but then again, pretty lame of her to stop listening to a band because the singer got married. Lots of guys already have the twisted perception that females only like male musicians because of some physical attraction ; leave it to a few girls to make the rest of us look like vapid groupies.
I think I’ll go sit on a curb and cry somewhere….hehehehe…..

Hey Jaron,
Wasn’t the girl on Full House Kirk Cameron’s little sister?
I remember lots of girls having the hots for Kirk (way too girly for me though). I also remember, the day after Jon Bon Jovi got married, standing on the lunch line at the cafeteria and seeing all these girls crying. It was really pretty funny, especially since I never dug him either.
Btw Mattman, I matured from Slash to Eddie Vedder all throughout high school…walls were plastered…thought you’d like to know…

Rosap.s. glad to see a lot of you guys like Italian girls

Hey Allison,
Did you know that when Patti Smith was a kid, she cut out Fred’s photo from a magazine and hung it on her wall, just because she thought he was beautiful? And they ended up getting married. I guess I should expect a call from Slash any day now.

RosaHello boys,
I think good communication skills are essential for and very much relevant to a leader’s ability to do a good job.
I really don’t think Bush is "camera shy"…and if he is, then shame on him for ever running for such a high-profile position!
You know, when I watch him on camera, it’s like I can hear the little neurons in his brain trying to connect with each other and form coherent thoughts….perhaps too much cocaine has addled his central nervous system?
Just a thought …don’t want to get too nasty here as I’m extremely exhausted and may come to regret it when dawn breaks…
But thanks for your concern Matt…it means a lot. I am from NY, and my Mom & I have been trying all day to get ahold of people on the east coast. It’s been difficult because the phone lines are so messed up, but so far everyone seems to be okay. A friend of mine in Brooklyn said it is just so weird to look out over the familiar Manhattan skyline and see a gaping hole where the Towers used to be.
Hope you all can get some sleep tonight…take care

RosaI sorely am missing President Clinton right now. He would have been in New York and would have addressed the nation twice before Bush even got out of Florida.
I just think it is the President’s responsibility to reassure the people in times of crisis, and from George W. I feel absolutely no comfort and no security.
He keeps stirring up economic shit in the U.S., and he has so badly damaged our relationship with our European neighbors and other nations that no culprit, domestic or foreign, would surprise me. I think he is war-hungry and reactionary, and I think he is trying to carry out all this unfinished business on behalf of his old man. He wasn’t in office for 3 months before he started dropping bombs in Iraq, and we all know his record in Texas.
I don’t know if anyone else agrees with me, but I think the fact that Clinton was able to get Israel & Palestine to at least sit down and TALK together was a HUGE step in the direction of peace. But when Bush came into office, his administration immediately aligned itself with Israel and shot that possibility to shit. No wonder Palestinians were cheering today.
I’m not anti-Republican; I thought Mayor Giuliani did a fantastic job addressing the media and the people of New York, and I was very impressed with his resolve and sense of calm. I can "rally" behind any leader who has the capacity to genuinely comfort in times of distress.
I just wish W would have spent as much of his 3-minute speech reassuring the U.S. as he did promising us "vengeance". But I guess I will just have to take comfort in the fact that he only tripped over two words this time.
Please take care of yourselves. I consider so many of you my friends and you are all in my heart & in my thoughts….and I hope I haven’t totally alienated our Bush supporters. (Matt, does this mean we can’t get married now?)

RosaHey now, I enjoy CMT. Country music seems to be the only guitar-oriented genre that is thriving right now.
P.S. Tony- don’t know who the KK is in your quote (Kris Kristofferson, perhaps?) but I must say that I am a big fan of the Chevy Impala …models between 1961 & 1974, of course

Rosa Hello,
Salamiguy, you were saying how people got on your case for liking jazz when you were younger, and how you never cared what people thought of your taste in music. And Tony, you were saying that you’re open-minded about music unless bands get "attention that they don’t deserve". And yet both of you seem so quick to do your own labeling of people as "fake punk kids".
Now, I’m sure we all agree that many people who post reviews on Amazon are not the literate geniuses of society. But I also don’t think it’s fair to collectively dismiss any band’s entire fanbase, just because you think the music has no redeeming value.
I think Fred Durst is a bonehead who singlehandedly created the dumbest fashion statement ever, but I also think Wes Borland is pretty cool, and very smart and talented. And Korn did some really beautiful, refreshing, groundbreaking stuff on their first two albums (not that any of you have ever actually listened to them).
MTV doesn’t even accept unsolicited videos anymore, and yes, their narrow, narrow scope is chock full of air and talentless midriffs. So in that sense, I think a lot of kids are being spoonfed a lot of vacuous crap. But I also can remember being 14 or 15, and being lumped into that category, and I remember how much I hated it. Few of my favorite bands were ever even ON television or radio, so how could I be thrown into that demographic (one that was created by the media anyway)?
I really am not trying to offend anyone but I think you guys need to temper your criticism with a little bit of your own childhood experience.
That’s all,
RosaIt’s always funny when my parents get into the music I like…my mom is forever borrowing my Pearl Jam tapes, and my dad always turns the radio up when Alice in Chains comes on. Mom also really likes a lot of the rockabilly I listen to, and actually went to a Reverend Horton Heat show with me last year
The only comments they’ve ever made about J were "he looks like a nice man" (my mom, looking at the pic of me & J), and "wow, nice fuzzbox effect" (my dad, upon hearing the intro guitar solo in "Alone").
As much as parents can give you a complex, they can also be really cool.

p.s. I almost forgot, Mom was really impressed with the "Leaving on a Jet Plane" cover– said it’s the first version she’s heard with "some life" in it
<approaches>
1. What color are your eyes? hazel (they look best in green eyeshadow)
2. Your boyfriend stands you up . If you choose to avenge it what do you do ? OR Are you passive about it ? OR Are you just plain depressed about ? first I ignore him for a while…then when HE calls ME to apologize, I make him take me out for dinner and drinks, tell me how much he worships me, then maybe I forgive him
3. You mentioned your jetlag . Do you travel often to Florida ? very funny
4. Did you take Jaron’s " I give it a month" post an insult . If not what did you consider it? I think Jaron has a problem with bestiality but is otherwise harmless…he seems to be projecting his childhood feelings of inadequacy and loneliness onto people in an anonymous environment with no perceived chance of retaliation (in other words, he only picks on the girls he likes)
5. Do you like smart guys? who doesn’t?I think instead of filling out any more surveys I’m going to start holding auditions– suggestions welcome

RosaHere are some I’ve actually gotten:
Good ones:
"Excuse me, you are absolutely gorgeous."
"I love your eyebrows. I’ll be back shortly to propose marriage"
(upon meeting one of my sister’s friends): "I see the hot gene runs in the family!"
(a geeky guy in a Minor Threat t-shirt): "wanna go play some pinball?"
and then there was the time I actually stopped traffic…I was walking to work and this truck stopped in the middle of the road, and this guy yelled out "I just had to stop and tell you how cute you are!"
Bad ones:
"I like what you got goin’ on"
"Damn girl, you look fitted" (I don’t get it)
(when I was buying guitar strings): "So, you’re buying some guitar strings?"
(from a butch lesbian, after I told her I was waiting for some friends): "I knew you were too cute to be sitting here by yourself" (can you say LAME)
"you kinda remind me of my ex-girlfriend"
"are you from the east coast? Yeah, I could tell"
**
sure I’ll think of more later
take care

Hello there,
I’ve covered this song a few times. This is the translation I use:
how can you tell me
I still believe you sometimes
you don’t have to make a show of it I get it
just have to warn me sometimes****
what’s there to tell me
I still sure need you sometimes
I’ve gone over it & over it, I’m baffled
can’t believe you’re using my line****
now won’t you tell me
I still believe you sometimes
I’ve tried in oh so many ways just to get there
and you pick now as the time****
oh won’t you tell me
now enough time has gone by
retell the story
guess I can take it this time—-
hopefully J isn’t reading this and laughing
take care
rosa
quote:
Um… show me one poll on this site that isn’t that way. Sorry I didn’t use my ESP to predict everyone’s favorite bass players.

Um…how about the "favorite guitarist besides J" poll? A small handful of musicians (albeit very talented & important ones), and none of them outside that circle you guys call "indie rock".
No ESP required, just a broader vision.
