son volt – bandages and scars
May 27, 2006 at 10:27 am in reply to: What was the first album/CD/45/casette you ever bought? #117825heh………….i’m starting to vaguely recall some bits of my youth, and i think the first 45 i remember buying was (don’t make fun…) joan jett’s version of "i love rock and roll"……

just heard GLP’s version of the new order tune "age of consent". man, i can’t wait to hear the whole thing….

i don’t know if they officially "broke up", or what the deal was…but i would love to see the afghan whigs play a show (never had the pleasure). as for the meat puppets….that’s great news! (although i thought chris was still in jail?) i saw them a few times in the late 80s-early 90s and they fucking tore it up! (see my post in the magic moments in music thread). other original lineups i’d like to see: talking heads, roxy music (w/eno), VU, the mekons, some incarnation of the lemonheads, MBV, janes addiction (saw them in ’91 w/rollins and it rocked……..hard), jesus and mary chain……….i could go on and on…
someone told me that the original camper van beethoven have been out on the road…that would be great. i saw them play at the student union at PSU back in ’89 and it was a hoot.
and finally……in the "when hell freezes over" category: husker du (it’ll never happen), (i suppose roxy music should be in this category as well) and uncle tupelo (as much as i love tweedy, jay was definitely writing much better songs back then)
did anyone catch any of the pixies reunion shows? i woulda loved that…
hmmmmmmm…i’d probably do ‘the lung’…i’ve always loved that tune..
hehe………….sweet. the re-issue is pressed on colored vinyl. i may have to upgrade my copy..
i’d have to say that YLAOM is my favorite..partly because it was the first one i bought, so it’s go a little sentimental value…but bug is a close 2nd……
what extras did they put on the re-issue? i have a crusty old copy of the homestead vinyl. it’s beat to hell, but it still sounds great

another big interview next wednesday
freaking out a bit now
J will ease my nerves
on the drive
to ithaca
NYa magic moment i had forgotten about………i was at a sonic youth show while they were touring for "goo"…and the glorious guitar freakout during ‘mildred pierce’ just blew me away………i was all high on acid at the time, so i don’t know how much that had to do with the uhhhhhhhh ‘magic’ per se…….but it was freakin’ unreal. i love that song…….
