it’s weird. i’ve been trying to think of another scenario in which critters from 2 different genera mate and produce viable offspring, and i can’t….

i busted out "mermaid Ave" (both vols.) and there are a few on here:

            walt whitman’s niece

            ingrid bergman

christ (does he count?) for president

            stetson kennedy

edit: came up with a few more:

            wilco – bob dylan’s 49th beard

minutemen – history lesson pt. 2 (sadly, about d. boon)

all of his solo records are good as well. but mighty joe moon is spectacular. his home base is LA (my sis lives there) and about a year ago she saw grant lee and john doe play a surprise acoustic gig at some tiny dive……

anyone who cares about where their food comes from, and is interested in becoming a more aware consumer should read "diet for a small planet" by frances moore lappe. this is the book that made me want to pursue the career i am now pursuing (ag. economics)…a tip though…the recipes mostly all suck ;)

my heroin addiction totally destroyed what could have been a wonderful relationship with an amazing woman. after i arrived in africa she sent me a collection of poems about me, us, and our time together. it is 18 separate poems, collectively titled "The Tombstone Poems". i cried when i read them. it is some pretty heavy shit. here’s a sample:

Be quiet. Be quiet. Tell no one.

                        Silent. Be still. Be Silent.

Leave only the sound of my breaking heart.

                        Speak to no one…

Who knows your pain? Your fear?
                        Your humiliation?

Hush. Stay in your idiot’s sleep.
                        Hide beneath the trees.

                        No one.

                        …but your dealer.

                        Hush. Quiet. Tell No one.

Lies exist in the absence of truth.

                        Narcotics are pain killers.
Pain killers for a numbness you cannot name.

There is a disease inside your head,
                        turning your hand against you,
making you court your death like a lover.

                        Hush. Be quiet. Be silent.

Soon, that is all you will be.

the only device i had to play music on in senegal was an old sony walkman (casette). it held up just fine, but i did wear a few tapes out. i still have a tape deck in my car as well, and hundreds of casettes…

damn…..i just found the thread i needed to start my downloading assault. there are a bunch listed here that i didn’t even know were released. 2 friends of mine did send me stuff every once in awhile. i got okkervil river’s black sheep boy (awesome) the latest wilco and son volt, the loretta lynn album with jack white, the mountain goats sunset tree and a bunch of other stuff. my faves of what was sent to me….decemberists picaresque, the aforementioned okkkervil river, and the silver jews tanglewood numbers.

i just bought a spool of 100 blanks and i’m ready for some marathon downloading/burning sessions.
