Salamiguy -thanks for the info bout the van Zandt site!

Nice little tune from a norwegian band that sums up what I feel of most of the bands out there.

Whopper -This Is Not A Song
This is not a song.
It’s not a rebel hit,
another white hype
from the girls that we like
and respect.
Oh man,
there’s a new shiny band
and they’re playing this song.
We all sing along,
how long.

There’s a song on the playlist,
but the words don’t mean a thing.
But the words don’t mean a thing.

If you don’t have the man,
you don’t have a band.
And if you don’t have a hit,
well then that’s pretty much it.
Come on, you’ve been
making these songs,
but if you don’t keep it simple
you’re not gonna stay.
And away.

There’s a beat on the billboard.
I think I’ve heard that beat before.
There’s a beat on the billboard.
I think I’ve heard that beat before.

There’s a band full of boys
and everyone sings.
They’re 29,
but they do different things.
One of them is tough
and another is sweet.
And they all shout their songs
as they walk down the streets.
There’s a girl on TV,
she plays the guitar,
she makes her own songs.
They say she’s gonna get far.
She really likes jazz,
but she’s playing this pop.
And her singles go,
dum dum dum di dum.

Somewhere, someone make a love song,
play it to the one you love.
No more Sting covers,
no soul funk lovers
and the bands on MTV.
They don’t do anything for me.
This is not a song.
This is not a song.
This is not a song.
This is not a song.
This is not a song.

Some great Dylan lines -thanks for the link kurticus

If I’d thought about it I never would’ve done it, I guess I would’ve let it slide,
If I’d lived my life by what others were thinkin’, the heart inside me would’ve died.
I was just too stubborn to ever be governed by enforced insanity,
Someone had to reach for the risin’ star,
I guess it was up to me.

Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues:

When you’re lost in the rain in Juarez
And it’s Eastertime too
And your gravity fails
And negativity don’t pull you through
Don’t put on any airs
When you’re down on Rue Morgue Avenue
They got some hungry women there
And they really make a mess outa you

Now if you see Saint Annie
Please tell her thanks a lot
I cannot move
My fingers are all in a knot
I don’t have the strength
To get up and take another shot
And my best friend, my doctor
Won’t even say what it is I’ve got

Sweet Melinda
The peasants call her the goddess of gloom
She speaks good English
And she invites you up into her room
And you’re so kind
And careful not to go to her too soon
And she takes your voice
And leaves you howling at the moon

Up on Housing Project Hill
It’s either fortune or fame
You must pick up one or the other
Though neither of them are to be what they claim
If you’re lookin’ to get silly
You better go back to from where you came
Because the cops don’t need you
And man they expect the same

Now all the authorities
They just stand around and boast
How they blackmailed the sergeant-at-arms
Into leaving his post
And picking up Angel who
Just arrived here from the coast
Who looked so fine at first
But left looking just like a ghost

I started out on burgundy
But soon hit the harder stuff
Everybody said they’d stand behind me
When the game got rough
But the joke was on me
There was nobody even there to call my bluff
I’m going back to New York City
I do believe I’ve had enough

Years and years have passed since the puritans invaded our soul
Just like those arab terrorists
you’ll never know.
But today the gods can’t make us quake,
we see our lives as situations
Eyes are eyes and teeth are teeth,
well mine are rotten underneath.
I got two ways we can separate from the clan.

if i could fly…i…could…fry.

Trolls in the glen are consorting again.
The liberals say they don’t exist,
but I know that they do.

I really love that song, both the melody and the lyrics are great. Someone had part of the lyrics as hishers signature a while a go if I remember correctly. Good choice!

You get the car / I’ll get the night off
/You’ll get the chance to take the world apart and figure out how it works
/Don’t let me know what you find out
/I need a car/You need a guide
/Who needs a map
/If I don’t die or worse I’m gonna need a nap
/At best I’ll be asleep when you get back
/I wanna see it when you find out what comets, stars, and moons are all about
/I wanna see their faces turn to backs of heads and slowly get smaller
/I wanna see it now

I want specifics on the general idea
/I wanna think what I should know
/Want you to do me what to show
/I wanna see movies of my dreams
/I wanna see movies of my dreams
/I wanna see movies of my dreams
/I wanna see movies of my dreams
/I wanna see it when you get stoned on a cloudy breezy desert afternoon
/I wanna see it untame itself and break its owner
/I wanna see it now

Spaceboy, glad you mentioned Motorpsycho since I forgot to do so.
Another one from Motorpsycho which I think’s better than the original:
Watching You.

Some new info about the tune Timothys Monster. The melody was written two days before they went into studio to record Angels And Deamons, but the lyrics were old.
