I have more or less switched from pure science to engineering (at least for a living – still have one foot kept in the science/uni world). Still mainly based in CR but got an offer to go back to Sweden for work and right now it looks like it’s gonna happen.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I’m sure the Czech Republic is very nice, but seeing as you’ve lived abroad for
some years now I bet it would be great to move back home.

I bought an old Volvo and drove it south.Until it nearly stopped being europe.
Stayed around those parts for some months, or maybe close to a year.
Then I took a boat to Argentina and walked around south america for a while.
Remembered that I’d always wanted to go to Japan, so I did.
Decided that enough was enough after a year and a half or so and went back to norway at the start of december 08.
Apparently not being very picky about whether I slept in a tent, on the ground, in the back of a volvo, in a hotel etc combined with copius amounts of alcohol and pharmaceuticals takes a toll on ones body.
So when I got home I slept for about two weeks. Then I bought myself a new dress, shaved and got myself a job.
Now I’m here.That’s the short version.
Sounds like you became quite the globe trotter. I wish I could do that someday, no way I could do that and drag the wife and kids along. Sounds like a grand experience. Glad to see you’ve made it back alive.
The logistics get’s a lot trickier to sort out with a hole family on a trip like that, no doubt about it.
I wasn’t even able to take care of myself, having to organize something for a family would’ve been a total and magnificent disaster in my case.About making it back alive, that’s sort of a funny story, I got stabbed twice within the first month in Spain.
That sounds a lot more dramatic than it was though. Once in the hand when I wouldn’t give a guy my watch,
and then in the gut when I stopped a guy who was beating up a girl. Ha, talk about a naive, blue eyed boy from tiny norway
Oh and here comes the funny bit, the girl was a prostitute, and she brought me home to the hotel/brothel were she lived and for three weeks I was cared for by prostitutes. And I realise this is going to sound like
I was having sexual relations all over the place, but there was nothing like that.
The janitor there gave me a casette copy of Beiruts Gulag Orkestar, man what a great album !

I was convinced the song game thread had become a part of their DNA.Its been a strange time around here Robert. Another Girl, Den Buck and SG disappeared a while ago, I haven’t heard from them in at least a year. Girl popped up for a day or two in 2008, then disappeared again. There have been a few people around, some of the old skool has been chatting it up on Lou’s board. Hopefully with the site redesign and the new record the site will roar back to life with a vengeance.

As I said before, it sounds a lot more dramatic than it was.
It had never occured to me that I could ever get stabbed, so when it happened I kinda didn’t register it.
At least not the first time, after the second time I sorta learned not to stick my nose too far into places it
didn’t belongYeah, I figured that I had probably ruined any chance of a carreer after being a hobo for two years.
But the company I worked at before my hiatus talked very warmly about me, not to mention the fact that
I didn’t exactly tell about being stabbed, camping on a couch in a brothel etc during the interviews.
And of course it helps that norway has two mountains of gold due to the oil, the crisis hasn’t struck as hard here. Yet.Oh man, a daughter

Our littlest one just turned 3 on Valentines day. It was kind of sad for my wife and I to realize that there wouldn’t be anymore little ones until the grandkids come, which hopefully is still a ways away. Our oldest just turned 13 last December; I’ve already begun an ongoing inventory of lotion and paper towels…………
